Situated along the banks of the Potomac River and near the center of Washington, D.C., Prince George's County, Maryland offers the best of upscale sophistication and old world history in the heart of our nation's capital. Upper Marlborough (aka Marlborough) is the county seat.
Prince George's County holds a bevy of diverse well-publicized experiences for visitors. Six Flags Amusement Park will have the kids' eyes as big as saucers before you even park the car. Superman: Ride of Steel is one of the highest roller coasters on the east coast; the exciting Six Flags Water Park is home to a huge wave pool called Hurricane Bay; and a six-story swirling, twisting tube that will have you screaming for mercy—aptly called Tornado.
For sports fans, Prince George's County has a wealth of sports arenas and aquatic facilities—whether you're a baseball, football, hockey, or basketball fan, there is something for you here. If you're looking for something a little more unique, you might make a visit to the National Capital Curling Center to watch people practice that little-understood sport up close and personal, or take in a horse show at the Prince George's Equestrian Center.
On the historic circuit, you can visit Abraham Hall and its Black History Program or drop in to Belair Mansion to see what life was like on a Georgian Plantation in the mid-18th Century. You can also get a look at what outer space looks like at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center; take a tour or watch a model-rocket launch to get into the spirit of things. Regardless of which era you're interested in, you should be able to find plenty to capture your imagination and keep you coming back for more because Prince George's is a county of many flavors.
