Cuyahoga County Information

Cuyahoga County in northern Ohio is one of natural beauty and urban appeal. Situated along the southern shore of Lake Erie, this is the most heavily populated county in the state, with most of these people residing in Cleveland and the surrounding metropolitan area. The county is bisected by the Cuyahoga River, and between this major waterway, lakes, and other water features, over 60 percent of the county is water. This allows for much in the way of recreation for residents and visitors, and many people in the area enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, and more in the crisp waters of Cuyahoga County. It is also home to Ohio's only National Park, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which is a huge attraction for visitors. The 51-square mile park is located in the southeastern portion of the County and has trails for hiking, jogging, and biking. It also features concerts, art exhibits, and scenic railroad tours.

Cuyahoga County is heavily urbanized as well. Much of this is centered in Cleveland, the county seat. This city is a popular tourist destination that is known for its diverse culture, entertainment venues, major sports teams, and fabulous cuisine. The areas of Little Italy, Tremont, and Slavic Village are notable neighborhoods within the city that have an array of shops and restaurants to attract visitors. The huge Playhouse Square Center is one of the biggest performing arts centers in the nation, with only the Lincoln Center in New York City being larger. Voted best in the U.S., the Cleveland Orchestra is another huge draw for the area, as is the Cleveland Museum of Art, featuring works from all over the world. Finally, the area is known for its sports teams and die-hard fans. The Browns (NFL), the Indians, (MLB), the Cavaliers (NBA), and the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) are just a few of the teams basing in the area.
