Shelby County is the largest county is Tennessee, both in size and population. It is located in the southwest corner of the state and has the Mississippi river running on its west side. Shelby County, which was founded in 1819, is home to many parks such as T.O. Fuller State Park, Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, and Shelby Farms. Shelby Farms is home to a bison herd as well as the headquarters of Ducks Unlimited. Shelby is populated with several thriving communities including Arlington, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Memphis. Germantown is a suburb of Memphis and is dotted with several large horse farms and is the host to the Germantown Charity Horse Show every June. Memphis is Shelby County's largest and most well known city. It features many great cultural and music destinations.
Step into the blues in the Beale Street entertainment district, or visit the home of the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, at the Graceland Museum. Among the many cultural destinations, one of the most moving is the National Civil Rights Museum located in the Lorraine Hotel, site of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Whether you are interested in taking in the scenery in one of its many parks, or catching some nightlife, Shelby County has an ample selection of events and places for you to enjoy.
