Multnomah County Information
Multnomah County is the smallest county in area in Oregon; it is also the most populated. Portland is the county seat and its largest city. Mill Ends Park in Portland lays claim to being the smallest park in the world—it measures a mere two feet across—it was built as a place to entertain leprechauns and hold snail races on St. Patrick's Day.
The arts are very active and diverse in the county. The Oregon Ballet, the Oregon Symphony, and the Portland Opera are just a few of the cultural venues locals and visitors to the region can enjoy. There are also numerous museums, gardens, and concert halls that make the county a desirable destination for children and adults alike. The busy arts community is also a draw for aspiring artists and craftspeople, and you'll find their unique and sometimes exotic wares available throughout many of the stores and shopping areas in the county.
Boasting over a million acres of parkland, the county has plenty of beautiful and scenic parks and preserves to keep even the most committed outdoorsman occupied. The county's Multnomah Falls, at 620 feet, is the United States' second highest year-round waterfall. Mt. Hood National Forest and the beautiful Columbia River Gorge are just two more of the amazing locations in the county available for hiking, canoeing, camping, and boating; and in the winter months, visitors can ski or snowshoe on the majestic slopes in the park. For locals, if the season is right, this is the best place in the county to pick out and cut their own Christmas trees. Multnomah County may be small in land mass, but it is huge in heart and stature…but why not go see for yourself?
