Suffolk County Information

Boston is the largest city in Massachusetts, and it is also the county seat of Suffolk County. Boston actually comprises most of the land mass for Suffolk County. Boston is, of course, a hub for American Revolutionary War history, and a center for the arts and entertainment communities as well.

Essex County is host to three national historic sites: the Boston Harbor Islands Recreation Area, The Boston African American National Historic Site, and Boston National Historical Park. These attractions draw thousands of visitors annually from all around the world. The Old North Church, where Paul Revere culminated his famous midnight ride, is part of a marvelous walking tour past many of the landmarks that were part of the birth of this nation. Spend a day exploring the ivy-league campuses of Harvard or Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to soak up some of the atmosphere, and see some of the oldest, most beautiful buildings in the area; or drop anchor next to Old Ironsides for a look at the oldest surviving commissioned warship in the U.S. Navy.

While many people think of this area as a metroplex, it does have some appealing beaches that draw tourists and locals alike throughout the summer—the most popular and well-known are Revere, Winthrop, and Short Beaches. If you live to shop, a visit to Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston is a must. The square is filled with cosmopolitan shops mixed in with a bevy of quirky little artsy places. When it's time for lunch or dinner, drop in to one of the many eateries that have been assailing your senses with their marvelous aromas since you arrived. Whether it's stone oven pizza or fresh seafood, you'll find something for everyone here…and that statement sums up Suffolk County, too…something for everyone.
