Snohomish County Information
Snohomish County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state today. Named for the Snohomish Indian Tribe, it is located in northwest Washington State; Everett is the county seat and its largest city.
Snohomish County is home to Glacier Peak. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Washington State, but it is also the most remote. All through the river valleys surrounding the peak are reminders of past flows. Lava that has crumbled away from the domes, and old ash that has formed into ridges along the summit all provide magnificent backdrops for some amazing photos. The volcano has also created several natural, therapeutic hot springs that draw thousands of visitors to the area annually.
For museum enthusiasts, the variety of offerings in the county is endless—from traditional historical museums, to the history of modern technology, you're bound to find something of interest to everyone in your party. The county has an active arts community. Many of the talented local artists have their works displayed in the municipal buildings and parks around the region. There are also concert venues, the Cascade Symphony Orchestra, ballet troupes, and live theater to keep visitors and locals alike entertained.
Because the county is in the heart of an agricultural area, a visit to a local restaurant is a culinary delight—the delectable offerings made with fresh-daily produce just can't be duplicated elsewhere. You'll also find that there are restaurants offering menus that address the many ethnic cuisines of the world. While you're dining, be sure to ask the waiter to suggest one of the fine Snohomish County wines to complement your meal—this is a taste treat not to be missed.
