Will County Information

Out of the middle of a prairie in the northern part of Illinois, Will County was formed, and now as part of the greater Chicago metro area, the county is one of the fastest growing in the United States. LaSalle Canal and the Lock 16 Visitor Center are good places to start exploring the county. A one-stop option for maps, brochures, and conversation about what's happening in the county, the visitor center also has a café, gift shop, and offers a relaxing boat ride down the canal.

Antique hunters will think they've discovered the mother lode when they see the shops along the Heritage Corridor—towns like Lockport, Braidwood, and Plainfield are full of vintage treasures and hard-to-find antiques. The area also boasts hundreds of restaurants that will appeal to all tastes and pocketbooks. From quaint drop-in sidewalk cafés and drive-ins from another era, to top-of-the-line gourmet restaurants, you'll love what the county has to offer.

If you love the outdoors, this is a great place to settle in for a little camping. The county has a number of great parks and preserves that offer hiking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, and much, much more. Many of these parks are open all four seasons, so, seasonally, you'll also find snowmobile trails, snowshoeing, and sledding.

The county has an ample supply of challenging golf courses if you want to spend a day on the links. If you have a need for speed, the Route 66 Raceway offers the best of NRHA drag racing, while the Chicagoland Speedway has NASCAR and Indy Car events.

There are plenty of places for you to stay, so explore Will County and get to know it; you'll be glad you did.
