Mecklenburg County Information

Mecklenburg County, which was founded in 1762, is the most populous county in the state of Tennessee. Within its boundaries, you can find the cities of Pineville, Mint Hill, Matthews, Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius, and the county's largest and most well known city, Charlotte. Charlotte is home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and the Carolina Panthers professional football team. Another notable resident is Billy Graham, whose library can also be found in Mecklenburg County.

Several Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Mecklenburg, including Bank of America, making it the second largest banking center in the United States. The county's largest employer is Carolinas Healthcare System which employs 26, 283. Wachovia and Bank of America are the next largest employers. Intercity rail is integral to the county's infrastructure. Mecklenburg's location between Atlanta and Washington on a major freight route makes it a busy area with 25 freight trains moving in and out of the area daily. The county is also served by three Amtrak routes and the LYNX light rail system. LYNX Rapid Transit Services is currently a 10-mile line running from Uptown to Pineville with a gradual expansion continuing into 2034.
